In September this year, the NDK team took the brave decision to take on the 10k run in aid of a local hospice, ‘Hospice in the Weald’ here in Tunbridge Wells.
This charity is close to a lot of people’s hearts in the community due to the amazing work they do. Hospice in the Weald provides care completely free of charge to patients with an illness where a cure is no longer possible, as well as a huge amount of help and support to their families and carers too.
So of course, NDK wanted to support such a great charity so we signed up! Keeping in mind that other than one person in the NDK team, none of the team are keen runners, this was a big commitment and training began almost immediately! Due to James’ recent knee operation, some of us took one for the team (or chickened out of the run) to keep James’ company as he volunteered on the day instead!
After a few months of training, it finally came to the day and the NDK team was ready! We split up, with some of the team going to the marshalling points and the others getting ready at the start line.
We had a fantastic day and couldn’t believe the number of supporters that came to watch and cheer on everyone taking part. The whole team managed to complete the 10k run, with Tom completing it in 55.12!
Not only did we have a lot of fun on the day, but we also raised £585 for this amazing charity!
We look forward to the next Hospice in the Weald fundraising event!
